Elmbridge Ladies Choir, made up of around 90 fun-loving and lively ladies, is delighted to be participating in the International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music in Bratislava alongside its sister mixed-voice choir, Elmbridge Choir. The ladies made their debut appearance on the European stage in 2011 at the Krakow Advent and Christmas Choral Festival, where the choir received a diploma for gaining the highest marks in the bronze category. In 2013 the choir travelled to Italy to take part in Veneto Canta, which included several memorable performances, including singing with around 50 other European choirs in St Mark’s Square in Venice. The ladies’ energy and passion for singing is evident in their lively and engaging performance. Formed just five years ago, this super choir is part of the charity ‘Surrey Community Music Society’, which raises money to provide financial and practical assistance for music-related activities within the community. In doing what they love best, the ladies are delighted to be helping others to enjoy and experience music. With clear direction and guidance from their very charming conductor, Dale Thomas, the ladies are always ready and willing to rise to a challenge. In the choir’s short existence, members have sung live on local radio, recorded a CD, appeared in a television commercial for T-Mobile, performed on stage with UK pop group ‘Blake’, and present regular fund-raising concerts in the community. Expect beautiful harmonies, warmth and passion from Elmbridge Ladies Choir!
Raised in Texas, Dale Thomas moved to the UK in 2006 with her husband and four children. Having sung for many years in choirs in her school, university, church, and community, she joined Elmbridge Ladies Choir as an alto in 2009. She found this to be a fantastic way to get involved in the local community and to meet a wonderful mix of people from all walks of life. Dale was appointed Musical Director of Elmbridge Ladies Choir in January 2011. Although new to conducting when she took on this role, she was hugely thankful to be given the opportunity to take on a new challenge and to stretch her own abilities, and under her leadership the choir has flourished and has grown to a staggering 90 members. A primary school teacher by profession, Dale thoroughly enjoys combining her passions for education and music in her work with Elmbridge Ladies Choir and she’s tremendously proud of the ladies of the choir for challenging themselves. With her encouragement and training, the ladies have gradually moved to performing without sheet music in order to immerse themselves more fully in the musical experience and to engage more with their audience. Dale emphasises fun and fellowship at rehearsals, and has built a warm and supportive community, resulting in a committed, cohesive performance. Through Dale’s efforts the choir was proud and delighted to achieve a Bronze award at the 2011 Krakow International Advent Festival.Back to the list of ensembles
