The Boulevard Harmonists is a 6-voice (mixed) a capella ensemble, celebrating good music and the joy of singing. The group's repertoire consists of classical music of different styles, as well as popular and folk music, including a number of South African works. The high standard of musicianship and wonderful music ensure events of pure musical charm and delight! The Boulevard Harmonists a Capella Ensemble was founded by and still is part of the North West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa. Since their inception they perform regularly in different parts of the world, and annually at the three major national art festivals in their home country. The group is today one of the finest in South Africa, and one of very few that also sings classical music in the format that they do. They have won two International Competitions for Smaller Ensembles, and their performances meet with wide acclaim, and excellent reviews and comment. Five CD’s have been released: Recital, Necessities, Tiempo, Monumental, and Project 4.
Kobus Venter began his choral life at the age of 7, singing in various choirs. In secondary school he was already engaged in conducting his school’s choir, and toured internationally as member of his youth choir. At university he was a member of the excellent choir of that institution, regularly being asked to conduct. In his senior student years he was asked to join the university’s elite a capella singing ensemble, the Boulevard Harmonists. Kobus has a degree in music, and is today the official conductor of the North-West University Choir (winning two gold medals at the World Choir Games in Riga, 2014). He is also the musical director of the Boulevard Harmonists – to be heard at the Bratislava International Competition of Advent and Christmas Music 2015...Back to the list of ensembles
