International festival for children, youth and adult folklore ensembles and choirs

Dear friends of folklore music and dance,
It is our pleasure to invite you to the International Folklore Festival SLOVAKIA FOLK 2012 that will take place from 19 to 22 July 2012 in Bratislava, Slovakia.
The Slovak capital Bratislava opens its arms to welcome folklore music, dance and instrumental ensembles to its beautiful historical centre.
We invite singers, folk dancers and musicians to enrich the wonderful atmosphere of Bratislava Music Summer by their songs, dances, traditional music and spontaneous performances.
Folk groups and choirs can join the festival either as non-competitive ensembles participating in all the performances of the festival, or as competitive groups.
The festival will take place under the auspices of Bratislava City Magistrate and will be managed by Bratislava Music Agency.

The International Folklore Festival SLOVAKIA FOLK 2012is open for children, youth and adult folklore groups:

Vocal and vocal-instrumental ensembles with folklore repertoire

Choirs
-
Dance folklore ensembles with live music or recorded music

Instrumental folklore ensembles, bands and orchestras
The minimum number of participants in the group is 6 performing persons (there is no maximum number limit or age limit)
COMPETITION CATEGORIES:
A - Choirs
Folksong a cappella:
A0: Children’s choirs up to 12 years
A1: Children’s choirs up to 16 years
A2: Youth choirs up to 25 years (sopranos and altos)
A3: Youth choirs up to 25 years (sopranos, altos, tenors, bassos)
A4: Adult choir
A5: Vocal ensembles 6 – 9 singers
Folksong with instrumental accompaniment:
A11: Children’s choirs up to 12 years
A6: Children’s choirs up to 16 years
A7: Youth choirs up to 25 years (sopranos and altos)
A8: Youth choirs up to 25 years ( sopranos, altos, tenors, bassos)
A9: Adult choirs
A10: Sacred, secular, spiritual, gospel music
B - FOLKLORE GROUPS
B0: Children folklore groups up to 12 years
B1: Children folklore groups up to 16 years
B2: Youth folklore groups up to 25 years
B3: Adult folklore grups
B4: Folklore vocal ensembles, 6 – 9 singers
C – FOLKLORE DANCE GROUPS
C0: Children folklore dance groups up to 12 years

D – FOLKLORE ORCHESTRAS
D0: Children folklore orchestras up to 12 years

D4: Folklore instrumental ensembles, 6 – 9 musicians
The performance time limit for choirs and folklore groups is 15 minutes; a piano is available.
The time limit for dance ensembles is 15-18 minutes.
The time limit for orchestras is 20 minutes.
Repertoire can be participant’s own choice.
Diplomas
Each participating ensemble will be awarded a diploma for participation and a festival souvenir prize by the International Folklore Festival Art Committee.
An international jury comprising of distinguished professionals
will judge the competition on the following criteria:
A/ choice of works and programme arrangement
B/ technique and interpretation
C/ artistic impression
With maximum of 100 points, the medals will be awarded as follows:
Diploma for participation up to 59,99 points
Bronze certificate 60,00 - 74,99 points
Silver certificate 75,00 - 89,99 points
Gold certificate 90,00 - 99,99 points
Grand Prix according to jury´s decision, min. 97 points
Technical equipment
The organisers shall provide the following equipment for the performances:

Registration fee
The registration fee for competitive groups is 200 EUR for one contest category (150 EUR each further category). Registration fee for non-competitive participation is 150 EUR.
The registration fee is not paid back in the case of cancellation of the application.

ACCOMMODATION AND BOARD:
Each choir including the conductor, accompanying people and bus drivers shall pay their travel expenses, expenses on accommodation and food.
