Dear lover of choral music,

We would like to invite you to participate in the IV. International Festival SlOVAKIA CANTAT 2010  to be held in Bratislava on April 22 - April 25, 2010.

The Slovak capital Bratislava opens its gates and invites choirs to its charming centre in the spring. We are inviting choirs from all over the world; your songs and performances will contribute to a truly spring atmosphere in Bratislava.

The festival will be managed by the Bratislava Music Agency, under the patronage of the city of Bratislava.

Choirs are eligible to join the festival either as non-competitive choirs participating in all the performances of the festival, or as competitive choirs.

DEADLINE FOR SENDING IN APPLICATIONS FOR THE FESTIVAL IS DECEMBER 15, 2009.

 

CATEGORIES

A:	Pre-school children’s choirs
A1:	Children’s choirs up to 12 years
A2:	Children’s choirs up to 16 years
B1:	Boys‘ choirs (sopranos and altos)
B2:	Boys‘ choirs ( sopranos, altos, tenors, basses)
C1:	Youth choirs up to 21 years (sopranos and altos)
C2:	Youth choirs up to 21 years ( sopranos, altos, tenors, basses)
D1:	Adult choirs – men
D2:	Adult choirs – women
D3:	Adult choirs – mixed
E:	Adult choirs – chamber 8 – 22 singers (men´s, women´s, mixed)
F1:	Folksong a cappella
F2:	Folksong with instrumental accompaniment
F3:	Folk music instrumental ensembles
G1:	Spiritual, gospel a cappella
H:	Musica Sacra a cappella
X:	Non-competive choirs

 

DIPLOMAS

According to the number of acquired points, the international jury will award

Bronze certificate	15 - 19,99 points
Silver certificate	20 - 24,99 points
Gold certificate	25 - 29,99 points
Grand Prix SLOVAKIA CANTAT	30 points

 

 

COMPETITION RULES

♦  One piece in the programme must be a cappella. The others can be with piano. Time limit is 15 min music time.

♦  Each choir will receive a diploma certifying the results. The jury may award
♦ other special prizes; for instance for ine slovo arrangement, voice production or original interpretation.
♦  The jury shall not issue any other evaluation of a choir‘s performance in
writing. Jury decisions are final, no appeals may be made.

♦  The registration fee of a choir: 1 contest category makes 200 EUR, each next one contest category makes 150 EUR .
For participation in the festival without participation in the competition 100 EUR.

♦  The given registration fee is not paid back in the case of cancellation of the application.

Choir Performance during Festival:

♦  A) 20 minutes of secular or folk music,
♦  B) 20 minute sacred program.

♦  The organizer reserves the right to use video and sound records from the festival.

 

CCOMMODATION AND CATERING:

Each choir including the conductor, accompanying people and bus drivers shall pay its own travel expenses, expenses on accommodation and food.

The application shall be enclosed with the following:

♦  Completed application form

♦  Competition program (name of the composition, composer full name, length of the compositions)

♦  Sound record of the choir not older than 3 years (a CD or a tape)

♦  Choirs and conductor description (10 lines)

♦  picture of the choir and conductor

♦  3 copies of score for competition works

♦  A copy of money order or bank transfer confirming payment for the festival fee.

Important dates

♦  February 15, 2010 - Deadline for the first payment for room and board - 50%
♦  March 21, 2010 - Deadline for the final payment for room and board.
