The Mixed Choir of the European Capital of Culture is a choral group uniting singers with diverse backgrounds in musical performing. The choir performs Estonian and Nordic music, ranging from beloved classics to modern compositions with innovative sound and form. The choir is led by conductor Veronika Portsmuth, PhD. The choir was formed in 2008. It was initiated by creative people involved in preparations for European Capital of Culture events in Tallinn, 2011. The choir has participated and received nominations at choral singing contests and festivals in China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Austria, Latvia and Malta. It has been a promoter of Estonian Song Festival tradition. In 2016, the plans include publication of its first CD with a full programme of Estonian and Nordic music. The choir is in a dynamic development phase, its main focus is on performing varied forms of choral music and regular presentations of Estonian choral singing traditions globally. The choir has its traditions, including Christmas season concerts and intensive rehearsal weekends twice a year to prepare for international contests or exciting festivals.
Conductor Rihards Zarinš graduated from Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Music Academy (teacher Māris Sirmais) 2013-2014. He has worked as a choirmaster in a youth choir “Balsis” (conducted by Ints Teterovskis), as a second conductor in a mixed choir "Spārnos" in Jūrmala, also in a Grammar school of Nordic Languages leading high school mixed choir. Zarinš is also acting as a choir coordinator, assistant to Ilmārs Millers/Jānis Baltiņš organising Song festivals in Mežaparks, Rīga. Rihards Zarinš is studying at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (teacher Toomas Kapten) since 2014 and working as a professional singer in Estonian National Male Choir.назад на список ансамблей
