The Magdeburg Children's and Youth Choir was founded in 1955. It regularly participates successfully in national and international competitions and has won a "Gold Diploma" several times. In May 2018, at the 10th German Choir Competition, the choir received the rating "excellent" and the first prize in the girls' choir category, as well as a special prize from the Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken cooperative banks. At the "young2025bohemia prague" International Choir Festival and Competition in March 2025, the Children's and Youth Choir once again won a "Gold Diploma." The choir has been under the direction of conductor Astrid Schubert since 2006. Further information about the Magdeburg Children’s and Youth Choir can be found at www.hegel-gymnasium.de.
Astrid Schubert received her training in music education at the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar, alongside advanced studies in choral voice pedagogy and conducting. She has been a member of the faculty at Hegel-Gymnasium Magdeburg since 2000, where she teaches music and Spanish. In 2006, she was appointed Artistic Director of the Children’s and Youth Choir Magdeburg. Her work includes extensive engagement with choral classes, focusing on music history, music theory, and choral conducting. Her artistic work as a conductor has been recognized internationally, including the award of a Conductor’s Prize at the International Choral Competition in Verona. In 2023, she was invited to serve as a jury member at the German Choral Competition.
