The Amersfoort Youth Orchestra has existed for over 65 years and features a full symphonic scoring, with double woodwind, a complete brass section, and percussion. The average age of the nearly 70 orchestra members is 17. The orchestra members share a passion for music, the joy of playing together, and an eagerness to develop musically. The orchestra is considered one of the better regional youth orchestras in the Netherlands. The orchestra is led by conductor Rolf Buijs.
Rolf Buijs
Conductor / Leader
Rolf Buijs started his musical career at a young age as a violinist and has been a member of orchestras since then. He studied the violin at the Amsterdam Conservatory and orchestral conducting at the Rotterdam Conservatory. After graduating, Rolf followed masterclasses with Tsung Yeh, Yorma Panula, Victor Feldbrill, Peter Etvös, Sir Edwards Downes, Valery Gergiev and Ilja Moesin. In 1995, Rolf Buijs won the third prize at the First International Competition for Young Conductors Lovro Matacic in Zagreb.
