The Hudson High School Chamber Orchestra from Hudson, Ohio USA is recognized as one of the top string ensembles in the nation routinely earning top accolades and ratings at local, National and International festivals and competitions including 1st prize in the International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, Austria. The orchestra has also performed at festivals in Florence, Rome, San Gimignano, Salzburg, Chicago, New York and Orlando while routinely earn consistent Superior Ratings at OMEA State Orchestra Contest. Under the direction or Roberto Iriarte, the program has enjoyed growth from 1 small orchestra to two string ensembles, Chamber and Sinfonietta, as well as a Symphonic Orchestra totaling over 120 players. Small chamber groups play for special events in the community. The ensemble is one of two in Hudson High School that perform four subscription concerts per year including a varied repertoire from all orchestral centuries and genres from the Renaissance to today. The students begin formal string instruction in the 4th grade and have opportunities for chamber music enrichment at each subsequent grade level. Graduates have been admitted to top medical, engineering, pharmaceutical and music programs throughout the United States including Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Yale, Northwestern, MIT, the Eastman School of Music, The Cleveland Institute of Music and Indiana University, respectively. The Hudson High School Orchestras are supported by the Hudson City School District and the Hudson Music Association.
Roberto Iriarte is currently the Director of Orchestras and Jazz Ensembles and has been with the Hudson City School District since 1996. He is a member of the Canton Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Pops Orchestra, has performed with the Cleveland Orchestra, Breckenridge Festival Orchestra and performs at Playhouse Square in Cleveland for Broadway Shows and special productions. He was a member of the Walt Disney World All-American College Orchestra, the American Wind Symphony Orchestra and the Casals Festival Youth Orchestra of the Americas. He has backed such artists as Dave Brubeck, Maynard Ferguson, Billy Taylor, John Davidson, Rita Moreno, Johnny Mathis, Michael W. Smith, Andre Watts, Edgar Meyer, Ed Shaughnessy, Rosemary Clooney, Linda Ronstadt, Jack Jones and the New York Voices. Mr. Iriarte is a graduate of Kent State University (BM, BMEd, 1994) and Temple University (MM, 1996) as well as the Kent-Blossom Chamber Music Festival. In 2013, he was a semi-finalist for the Inaugural Music Educator of the Year Grammy Award. He is a certified Master Teacher and has served as the OMEA Northeast Region Chair.
